Review of Two to Three Children’s Picture Books by the Same Author
Each student will be responsible for selecting one children’s book author, reading two to three books by that author and preparing an informative Power Point presentation for the class (to be peer reviewed by two classmates. Provide information about the author, genre of the books you selected, content and story -line, illustrations, author’s typical style, whether the books are fiction or non-fiction, similarities and differences in the books selected for your author’s study, and why you believe this author/illustrator has been considered effective in writing for young children. Add your recommendations regarding how teachers could create lessons using these books and provide an example of at least two lessons that could be performed in the classroom using these books.
Outline of your PowerPoint
You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation highlighting your author/illustrator you chose for your study. You will need 6 slides and you will need to include in-text citations, a reference slide with the books cited at the end, and any reference you used to tell about this author:
Slide one – Title page, your name, date, class title, and instructor’s name. You will also be graded on visual appeal and presentation such as design and inclusion of clip art from the books and some graphics. Power Point design should reflect your author’s style.
Slide two – General overview of the content of the author’s life story, writing style, book topics and whether his or her life influenced these topics, interesting facts about his or her life and his or her books.
Slide three/four – Detailed summary and critique of each book, including strengths and weaknesses, similarities and differences in the selections, and detailed book report summary for each book.
Slide five – Recommendations with examples of how this author could be used to perform a learning unit of study with at least three actual activities summarized.
Slide six – Reference with the APA formatted books and any other references listed.
