In the few last discussions, we have addressed the need to integrate the context of gender in migration studies. Last week, you were introduced to the significance of the global economy in shaping migration, resettlement and cultural dynamics. This project will give you an ethnographic perspective on how gender expectations are both renewed and challenged in immigrant communities within the United States.

What is the context of migration? How are do different migration patterns affect resettlement? What the conditions for facilitating racial and ethnic integration into the U.S. and overcoming stereotypes and ambivalence (particularly associated with undocumented migration)?
